The island

Bozcaada is a small island: twenty minutes by car from one end to the other. The house is by the harbour; the market street, the castle and the evening cafés are all within walking distance.

Where to, and how far?

Schematic map of Bozcaada: the house next to the harbour, vineyards in the middle of the island, beaches on the south and west coasts.
Schematic map, not to scale. Times from the house, approximate.
  1. Sekiz Rüzgâr

Old Greek quarter, two streets back from the harbour

  2. Pier and castle 6 min walk

The harbour where the ferry docks, with the castle right beside it. In the evening people sit in the harbour cafés.

  3. Greek quarter market street 2 min walk

The bakery, wine houses and small shops that stay open late into the evening.

  4. Vineyards 10 min by bike

The middle of the island is vineyard; Kuntra and Karalahna grapes grow here. The wineries open their doors to visitors.

  5. Ayazma Beach 15 min by car

A sandy beach on the south coast; sheltered even when the poyraz blows.

  6. Akvaryum Bay 25 min by bike

A small rocky cove with clear water; bring a mask for snorkelling.

  7. Polente Lighthouse 20 min by car

The western tip of the island. Watch the sunset from here; the road back is dark, so bring a torch.
